Trimming is the step where hemp flower is separated from the leaf around it. How that is done changes what you receive, and it is not always stated on the label.
Hand trimming
Done with shears, bud by bud. It is slow and it is the single most labour-expensive thing we do. The reason to accept that cost is resin: trichomes are fragile, and every mechanical knock removes some. Hand-trimmed flower keeps its structure, its frosting and most of its aroma.
Everything we sell in retail sizes — an eighth through an ounce — is hand trimmed.
Machine trimming
A tumbler does in an hour what a crew does in a day. The trade-off is resin loss and softer edges on the bud. For anyone buying fifteen pounds at a time to extract, infuse or process, that trade-off is entirely rational — you are not buying the way it looks, and hand-trim labour would just be money added to a price you then have to earn back.
So that is how we sell bulk:
The part worth knowing
We say which method was used on every product page, and the two are priced differently because they genuinely cost us differently. The short version: hand trimmed is for looking at and smelling, machine trimmed is for processing.
